Which bed for which situation at home
| Situation at home | Worth considering | Rent or buy |
|---|---|---|
| Need expected to last weeks; nobody needs to change the bed height | Standard 2 Function | Rent; one month is possible |
| The person moves between bed and chair, commode or wheelchair | Flexi 3 Function: the height (40–65 cm) can be set for the transfer | Rent while the need is uncertain |
| The carer changes pads, gives bed baths or turns the person, often alone | Flexi 3 Function, or 3 Function Auto for a hand control instead of a crank | Rent first |
| Need with no end date | The functions the care team names | Compare: buying costs about five to six months of rent |
| Palliative care | Check whether the hospice lends a bed first | Rent if no loan bed is available |
| Older person who struggles to get in and out of a normal bed | See beds for elderly people | Depends on how long the need lasts |
The name of the diagnosis does not decide the model, and more functions do not mean a better clinical fit. What decides it is what the carer has to do at the bedside every day, and the advice of the nurse, occupational therapist or physiotherapist before discharge. For older people see beds for elderly people; for the motorised models see electric hospital beds.
Hospital bed, medical bed, adjustable bed or nursing bed?
In Malaysia, “hospital bed”, “medical bed”, “patient bed” and “nursing bed” usually describe the same kind of bed for home care: a backrest and leg section that can be raised, and on some models an adjustable height, side rails and castors. In Malay it is a katil hospital or katil pesakit.
“Adjustable bed” is broader. Some adjustable beds sold for bedrooms are built for comfort and may not have the height range, side rails or lockable castors a carer relies on. If you are comparing one, ask for its height range, its weight limit and whether rails and castor brakes are fitted, and ask us for the same figures for the model you are quoted.

| Model | Rent / month | Buy | For the home |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard 2 Function Manual (M15) | RM150 | RM799 | Backrest and knee by crank; fixed 50 cm height; 200 cm × 90 cm sleeping surface; 150 kg weight limit |
| Flexi 3 Function Manual (M08) | RM250 | RM1,349 | Height 40–65 cm by crank; 210 cm × 95 cm sleeping surface; 180 kg |

A new bed that is bought carries a 365-day purchase warranty under the scope written on the quotation, invoice or warranty record. We also sell used beds; the price and any warranty follow the exact unit and its condition, in writing.
Before the bed arrives: room, door and power
- Ask whether the bed arrives assembled or in parts to be put together in the room, and ask for the size of the largest single part with the quotation. That part has to pass the door, the tightest turn, the stairs or the lift.
- Leave working space beside the bed for the carer, and on both sides if two people help with turning or changing.
- For the 3 Function Auto, the socket position decides which way the bed can face.
- Photograph the entrance, corridor and room with a tape measure in the picture and send them on WhatsApp with your postcode. We check the route before anything is sent out.
Measurements for each model and a room-size formula are in hospital bed dimensions.
Which mattress at home
NICE CG179 recommends a pressure-ulcer risk assessment, a skin assessment by a trained professional for anyone at high risk, a repositioning plan, and a high-specification foam mattress for adults at high risk in community care. It suggests a dynamic (alternating-pressure) surface when foam is not enough for someone who already has an ulcer. We do not sell high-specification foam, and NICE does not test or endorse our products, so ask the nurse which surface is needed before ordering.
- PVC waterproof mattress, RM399. A base mattress with a waterproof PVC cover. It is not sold as a pressure-relief surface.
- Ripple mattress, RM199. Our ripple mattress is an overlay that sits on top of a base mattress; it does not replace the mattress. Do not put it straight on the bed platform.
An overlay changes the rails as well. MHRA guidance on bed rails notes that an overlay or thicker mattress raises the person relative to the top of the rail and so reduces the rail’s effective height. Its dimension table sets the top of the rail at least 220 mm above the uncompressed mattress and, where an overlay means that cannot be met, calls for a risk assessment; it also asks for the risk assessment to be revised after substantial changes to the bed system. See ripple mattress and hospital bed mattresses.
What the first month at home costs
The monthly rent is only part of the first bill. A worked example for the Standard 2 Function:
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Rent, first month | RM150 |
| Deposit | RM0 |
| Delivery, one way within Malaysia | Up to RM280, confirmed for your address and access |
| Mattress, if needed | Separate item on the quotation, not part of the rent (PVC RM399, ripple overlay RM199) |
| Return collection | Any separate return charge is set out on the quotation |
Before any mattress or other quoted item, the first bill is RM150 plus delivery of up to RM280: no more than RM430. Payment is collected after the bed has been delivered and installed; where an instalment plan is used, it is signed after delivery. Ask for the quotation to list every item before the delivery slot is confirmed.
Rent or buy for home use
- Unknown duration: rent. The deposit is RM0 even for one month.
- Past about five months: buying a Standard (RM799) costs about the same as five months of rent (5 × RM150 = RM750), before delivery; for the Flexi and Auto the point is about five to six months.
- Buy-back: we buy back the bed frame at 50% of its purchase price within 1 year (mattress excluded). The bed must have been bought from us and be in good condition; a collection fee applies.
- Renting first: part of the rent already paid may be deducted from a later purchase, only as set out in the written quotation.
Full prices by duration are on hospital bed rental and buy a hospital bed.
Help with the cost in Malaysia
- JKM carer allowance (BPT): RM500 a month for carers of bedridden OKU or chronic patients, according to MyGOV, for citizen households earning up to RM5,000 a month. It is a carer allowance, not bed aid. Budget 2027 announced RM600 with no effective date yet. Guide in Malay.
- PERKESO (insured workers with an approved claim): its rehabilitation service lists hospital beds and ripple mattresses, supplied on the treating doctor’s recommendation. It does not say whether beds are lent or given. Guide in Malay.
- Armed forces veterans: JHEV ATM’s patient equipment scheme names beds and mattresses, up to RM5,000.
- Hospices and NGOs: many hospices lend beds to registered palliative patients, subject to stock, and some ask for a refundable deposit (hospice guide in Malay). Other routes are in free hospital bed aid (in Malay).
Questions about hospital beds for home use
How much is a hospital bed for home use in Malaysia?
Our hospital beds rent from RM150 a month (Standard 2 Function), RM250 (Flexi 3 Function) and RM450 (3 Function Auto), with an RM0 deposit. To buy, prices start at RM799, RM1,349, RM2,799 and RM5,500 for the Ultra 6 Function. One-way delivery within Malaysia costs up to RM280, confirmed for your address.
Is a medical bed or an adjustable bed the same as a hospital bed for home use?
For home care in Malaysia, hospital bed and medical bed usually mean the same kind of bed: a backrest and leg section that can be raised, and on some models an adjustable height, side rails and castors. Some adjustable beds sold for bedrooms are built for comfort, so check the height range, weight limit, rails and castor brakes.
Can I rent a hospital bed for home for one month?
Yes. The rental deposit is RM0 for every duration, including one month, and payment is collected after the bed has been delivered and installed.
Which hospital bed suits home care after a stroke or surgery?
The name of the diagnosis does not decide the model. If the carer moves the person between bed and chair, or changes pads and gives bed baths, the Flexi 3 Function lets the bed height be adjusted from 40 to 65 cm. The 3 Function Auto does the same with a hand control for a carer working alone. Ask the discharge team which functions are needed.
Will a hospital bed fit in my room?
Ask for the size of the largest single part as delivered; it has to pass the door, turns, stairs or lift. Leave working space beside the bed for the carer, and a socket near the bed for the 3 Function Auto. Send photos of the route with a tape measure on WhatsApp and we check it before delivery.
Is a mattress included with a home hospital bed?
Only if the written quotation lists it. The PVC waterproof mattress is RM399 and the ripple mattress, an overlay that sits on a base mattress, is RM199. NICE recommends high-specification foam for adults at high risk, which we do not sell, so choose the mattress after a nurse has assessed the person.
