What Is a Ripple Mattress?

Also called an alternating pressure mattress or air mattress for bedsore care

A ripple mattress uses groups of air cells that inflate and deflate alternately to redistribute pressure. The cell design, pump cycle and settings depend on the model. Some products are overlays placed on a compatible base mattress; others replace the mattress. The name “ripple mattress” alone does not establish how a unit should be installed.

Ask the care team which support surface suits the person’s mobility, skin condition and ability to reposition. A diagnosis alone does not identify the right mattress.

How It Helps — and What It Cannot Do

The alternating cycle redistributes pressure, which supports the skin-care routine for a bedbound patient. It does not replace that routine: scheduled repositioning, skin checks, hygiene and nutrition still matter, and a mattress is not a guarantee against pressure injuries. For wound staging or treatment, follow a health professional’s advice.

• The pump runs on mains electricity — place the bed where a socket is reachable.
• Confirm the exact model, cell type and weight guidance on the written quotation.
• If a bedsore already exists, tell us and your care team — suitability depends on the wound’s stage.

Overlay or Replacement Mattress?

An overlay sits on a suitable existing mattress. A replacement mattress replaces that mattress according to its instructions. Ask for the exact model manual before deciding whether the unit can sit directly on the bed platform. Do not infer compatibility from a photograph or a generic single-bed size.

• Base and size: check whether a base mattress is required, the inflated length, width and height, and the permitted bed platform.
• Pump and power: confirm the supplied pump, tubing, power requirement and manufacturer instructions for alarms or loss of power.
• Person and rails: ask a competent provider to check the intended user, weight limit, gaps and remaining rail height with the mattress installed, including when the bed is adjusted.

Our advertised ripple-mattress purchase price is RM199, confirmed by the owner on 25 July 2026. It is an accessory purchase, separate from hospital bed rental (from RM150/month, RM0 deposit) or a bed purchase (from RM799). The quotation must identify the mattress model, whether a pump is supplied, warranty, delivery and the total for your postcode. The advertised price does not establish stock, dimensions or a standard warranty for every mattress. For a mattress-only order, ask for availability and the full order total.
